A 38-YEAR-OLD man from Piki Village was recently arrested in Mutare for possession of methamphetamine.
Mike Moyo’s arrest is part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking in the province.
Methamphetamine, commonly known as meth, is a highly addictive and potent stimulant that can have devastating effects on individuals and communities.
Its use can lead to increased heart rate, blood pressure and the risk of stroke, as well as aggressive behaviour, hallucinations, and severe dental problems.
Long-term use can result in cognitive impairment, memory loss, and increased risk of infectious diseases.
This makes its possession and selling without a valid prescription a serious offence due to its high potential for abuse and harm.
Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the arrest of Moyo last week.
“On June 11, police in Zimunya received a tip-off that Moyo had just bought crystal meth and was packing it at his house preparing to resell it.
“Moyo is known for selling crystal meth in the area and the police immediately visited his homestead.
“The police conducted a search at Moyo`s house and found 12 sachets of crystal meth leading to his subsequent arrest,” he said.
The recovered crystal meth is being held as evidence.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing and he is set to appear in court.
Ass Insp Chinyoka commended the local community for their instrumental role in facilitating the arrest of Moyo by providing vital information, highlighting the importance of community involvement in combating crime.
“We appreciate the community’s support in providing crucial information that led to the arrest.
‘‘We appeal to them to continue reporting any suspicious activities to help us combat drug trafficking in our communities,” he said.
