A MARRIED man yesterday asked for a divorce in court after his wife’s protection order against him was granted.
Lynette Sheren dragged her husband Jonathan Zekia to court accusing him of physical abuse.
Magistrate Rutendo Machingura granted her a protection order.
Sheren revealed that she had had enough of Zekia’s abuse.
“Your worship, if the court may bar my husband from insulting and assaulting me.
“On August 15, he struck me with an iron bar and almost choked me. Whenever he comes home from work, he threatens to kill me.
“I love my husband, but I am not happy with the way he treats me.
“Since we got married, I have never known peace in this marriage,” said Sheren.
Zekia disputed the allegations, saying his wife was “now spicing up things”.
“There was a communication breakdown that made her come for this application since we should have solved the issue on our own.
“Whenever, we have an altercation, she informs her relatives.
“I am employed as a taxi driver, and I start work at 3am to 11pm.
“Sometimes, I fail to return home and I wonder what time exactly do I abuse her when we spend less than five hours together.”
He added: “I have realised that my wife is insecure and uncomfortable whenever I buy new clothes or wear sunglasses.
“She is insecure and suspects that I want to seduce ladies.”
He admitted that he once insulted and threatened his wife with violence out of anger.
“I do admit I once insulted her as a warning for her not to behave like a sex worker.
“I do admit that I insulted her, and I also issued her with death threats. Your worship do not grant her protection order because this might cause problems in the near future.
“If this protection order application is granted, it’s better that we divorce,” he said.
