Man assaulted over Tsvangirai

Gwanda Correspondent
A MEMBER of Professor Welshman Ncube led MDC was assaulted by a man he thought was a fellow party member for referring to MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai as an uneducated politician. Ralph Dube (40), of Number 35 New Houses, Jahunda Township in Gwanda Town yesterday appeared before Matabeleland South provincial magistrate-in-charge Mr Douglas Vakayi Chikwekwe facing charges of assaulting Mr Justin Ncube. Mr Ncube is a teacher at St Christopher’s Primary School.
Dube was convicted on his own plea and fined $100 or two months in prison.

On 30 June at about 9pm, Mr Ncube was at Phumulani Hotel in Gwanda together with his friends.
Dube arrived at the hotel and called Mr Ncube who was wearing an MDC green T-shirt, to come closer to him.
When Mr Ncube came closer to Dube, he asked him what kind of a T-shirt he was wearing.

Dube then called an MDC-T supporter who was also wearing the party’s T-shirt.
Pointing to the MDC-T supporter, Dube told Mr Ncube that only an MDC-T T-shirt was ideal to be worn.
Mr Ncube was surprised to hear such words coming from a man he had all the time regarded as a fellow party supporter.

Mr Ncube hit back by saying that he can not wear MDC-T regalia as Mr Tsvangirai was uneducated.
A heated argument ensued leading to Dube slapping Mr Ncube once on the face.

Mr Ncube reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Dube.
Mr Jefta Nyikadzinashe prosecuted.
