A Lupane man beat up his wife in full glare of police officers at their station because she disagreed with his decision to marry a second wife.
Trouble started at home when Thembani Nkiwane (42) told his wife Sinothile Bhebhe (34) that he intended to take one of their cows to pay bride price for a second wife.
Having broken the news, the two exchanged harsh words leading to Nkiwane beating up his wife with a wooden stool and a whip.
She fled to St Lukeas police station where he followed in hot pursuit.
When Nkiwane finally caught up with her at the station, he found his wife reportingA the matter. Without remorse he slapped her and grabbed her by the throat.
He was restrained by one Assistant Inspector Sibanda and a Sergeant Muchapaziva.
For physical abuse, Nkiwane has since appeared in court. Resident magistrate Ndumo MasukuA remanded him in custody to 8 March for sentencing.
In his defence Nkiwane said he beat his wife because she lacked respect.
a?Your worship, she disrespects me. She does not want me to marry a second wife. She refused that I should take a cow from our kraal for bride price. I am the head of the family and I am the owner of the cattle, as such she should respect me,a? he said.
His wife argued that they jointly owned the cattle hence she had a say.
