A MAN from Mbombela village in Silobela, Midlands Province died while he was being ferried to hospital after he was allegedly axed on the head by two men over a long-standing dispute.

While Freeman Sibanda was heading home in his scotch cart in the company of Wiseman Mpofu and Priority Bhebhe, they met Elvis Mpofu who flashed a torch at Freeman’s face. The source said after that a misunderstanding broke out and it spiralled into a fistfight. It is alleged that Priority joined in attacking Freeman. Priority then fetched an axe from the jacket’s pocket and severely struck Freeman on the head.

“He tumbled to the ground and bled profusely. After that Priority fled leaving the axe stuck in Freeman’s head. A villager later arrived at the scene and found Freeman lying in a pool of blood, sadly he died while he was transporting him to Silobela District Hospital.”

The incident was reported to the police. Midlands Provincial spokesperson Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.

“We sincerely appeal to members of the public to desist from engaging in violence or any violent behavior. We kindly appeal for any information that may assist in the arrest of the suspects,” he said.
