Woman jailed for beating up stepchildren

A 29-YEAR-OLD woman from Bulawayo has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for physically abusing her two stepchildren.

The woman, whose name is withheld for ethical reasons, recently appeared before a Western Commonage magistrate facing charges of contravening the Children’s Act. She was convicted and sentenced.

Five months of her sentence was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. She will therefore serve an effective 19 months in prison.

The court heard that on 11 June 2024, the culprit assaulted her stepson aged five, and her stepdaughter aged three all over their bodies using an unidentified object.

The stepdaughter sustained bruises on the neck and body as well as a broken hand. The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the culprit.
