A 34-YEAR-OLD man from Chirumhanzu has been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of a fellow villager following a misunderstanding over a tuckshop attendant at Bhiri Business Centre.

Police have identified the suspect as Rifias Mandiko (34) of Chakawa Village under Chief Hama, who allegedly axed Chamunorwa Madzimure (35) of Mahapa Village, Chief Hama, to death after a heated confrontation.

The incident occurred around 11 pm on October 29, 2025, when Mandiko reportedly went to Bhiri Business Centre, claiming he wanted to buy beer from a tuckshop. He was carrying an axe.

Upon arrival, Mandiko allegedly found the now-deceased talking to the female tuckshop attendant.

He is said to have demanded to know what the two were doing at that hour, sparking a violent quarrel.

The attendant ran to inform the nearby village head, Munyaradzi Zishiri, but on their return, they found Madzimure lying dead with two deep cuts on the head.

Police reacted swiftly and arrested Mandiko at his homestead.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said:

“We confirm the arrest of a 34-year-old man from Chirumhanzu in connection with a murder case which occurred at Bhiri Business Centre on 29 October 2025,” said Inspector Mahoko.

“The suspect approached the tuckshop where he found the now-deceased talking to a female attendant. An altercation arose, and the suspect allegedly struck the victim with an axe, leading to his death.”

“We urge members of the public to solve disputes amicably and respect the sanctity of human life. Violence is never a solution.”
