IN a heart-rending incident, a 24-year-old Mwenezi man allegedly killed his 58-year-old father in cold blood by axing him three times on the head leaving it almost in two halves alleging that he had disowned him after a beer drinking argument.
He further alleged that his father had bewitched his mother. This was heard when Sikhala Zhou of village Chovelele in Chief Mazetese’s area appeared before Mwenezi magistrate Mr Honesty Musiiwa facing a charge of murder as defined in Section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.
He was remanded in custody to 24 November 2016.
The State’s case as presented by the prosecutor, Mr Willard Chasi was that on 8 November this year, the accused left home in the morning in the company of his father who shares the same name going for a local beer drink.
The two, the court heard, spent the day together drinking beer at a nearby village. At around 4pm they agreed to leave and started their journey home, accompanied by their uncle Sam Zhou. They were all drunk.
It was the State’s case that on their way home, the three touched on different stories and had arguments. As they argued, the court heard, Zhou senior was not pleased with the way his son seem to be disagreeing with him on every subject he raised resulting in him complaining that his son was not taking heed to what he was saying.
Mr Chasi told the court that in his drunkenness, the accused would not listen to his angry father. They got home making noise from the misunderstanding with Zhou senior accusing his son of disrespecting him.
The court heard that Zhou in rage told his son that he cannot be the father to such a stubborn son and this did not go down well with Zhou junior who accused his father of disowning him and requested that he tells him who his father was.
It was the State’s case that during the heated argument the accused person to took an axe and struck his father three times in the head and once on the back leaving the head almost in two halves.
He collapsed and died on the spot. A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the accused person and his subsequent appearance in court. The body was taken to hospital for a post-mortem. The results will be presented in court.
