A 38-YEAR-OLD Hope Fountain man has been arrested for attempting to kill his 23-year-old relative following a family dispute.
Mbonisi Ncube of Village A3, Hope Fountain, Bulawayo, was arrested on August 19 in connection with the attempted murder case.
According to Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the incident occurred at around 10pm after the two men had been drinking beer together at a local bar.
The pair returned home at around 11pm, where a misunderstanding arose between them over family issues.
Inspector Msebele said Ncube went into one of the rooms, took an axe and struck the complainant once on the forehead and once on the right arm.
The injured man ran into the house, but Ncube followed him while still armed with the axe.
A 52-year-old man intervened and managed to disarm Ncube before a police report was made, leading to Ncube’s arrest.
Inspector Msebele commended the 52-year-old man for intervening and disarming the accused, preventing the situation from escalating further.
She urged members of the public to desist from resorting to violence when resolving disputes.
