A 40-year-old man from Chakari, Zimbabwe’s Mashonaland West Province, allegedly axed his wife to death before committing suicide.
Watson Musika is said to have struck his wife, Sheillah Utete (32), with an axe on several occasions before consuming suspected cyanide.
His lifeless body was later found at their residence in the mining town.
Police confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday, saying investigations are underway.
“The ZRP is investigating a case of murder which occurred on 05/07/24 at around 1500 hours in which Shiellah Utete (32) died.
“Watson Musika (40) allegedly struck his ex-wife, the victim, with an axe on the neck, shoulder and on the head in a bush near Maldon Compound, Chikari, Chegutu.
“The suspect consumed suspected cyanide and was found lying lifeless inside a kitchen at his residence.”
