Court Reporter
A Seke man who beat up his mother and young brother over the latter’s school report escaped a prison term after his sentence was commuted to 210 hours of community service. Ashmore Marambire (33) of Chakahwata Village Seke on July 26 at around 1pm, asked for his young brother Lawrence’s (18) school report.
The court heard that his inquisition did not go down well with Lawrence who remained silent, angering Ashmore who then kneed his brother thrice in the stomach. Lawrence screamed in pain prompting his 53-year-old mother Tambudzai to come to his rescue. Upon entry into the house, Tambudzai tried to rescue Lawrence from further assault and Ashmore shifted his attention to his mother and grabbed her by the hand.

Ashmore twisted his mother’s arm thrice and she screamed with pain before storming out of the house. Lawrence and Tambudzai thereafter, reported the matter to the police.

Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Jessy Kufa slapped him with a 12-month jail term after pleading guilty to two counts of assault.
Ms Kufa suspended four months on condition of good behaviour.
