Man breaks into bar, drinks himself senseless, caught napping

Justice Nyamweda of Shirichena Village was caught red-handed after he consumed beer worth US$10 and dozed off.

He denied the charges when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Godfrey Unzemoyo.
But Mr Unzemoyo sentenced him to 12 months in prison and set aside one month on condition he restitutes the owner US$10 before January 20 next year.
Another three months were set aside on condition of good behaviour.

Before sentencing Nyamweda, Mr Unzemoyo said prison time would give him an opportunity to reflect on what course of life he wanted to take.
“I was thinking of giving you community service, but I noted that you should go to prison and reflect on whether or not you want this kind of life,” he said.

Prosecutor Mr Luke Mutupe proved that on December 25 this year, Nyamweda first visited Babra Mavhunga at Kapeta Business Centre where she works as a bar tender at Nyikadzino Bottle Store.
He came with 10 pints of golden pilsener which he intended to exchange for Black Label pints.

Mavhunga closed the shop at around 2:30am and went home.
At around 4:15am, Nyamweda broke into the night club which was near where a local band was providing music to a crowd.

He stole two packs of hunters, 10 pints of beer and two 750ml of skippers.

Nyamweda started drinking the beer inside the nightclub, before becoming intoxicated and falling asleep on the floor.

Some revelers noticed Nyamweda’s movements and alerted the police.
The police apprehended him and recovered US$4 he had stolen and some empty beer bottles.
