A HARARE man appeared in court yesterday on murder charges for allegedly beating up a fellow reveller to death at a local bar.
Edward Vandeventer, 27, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him in custody to December 20.
The court heard that Vandeventer, and the now deceased Chris Kundayi, were drinking beer at Bluffhill shops and then got into a fight over an undisclosed misunderstanding.
Vandeventer allegedly lifted Kundayi and threw him onto the ground where he landed head first.
Kundayi started experiencing difficulties in breathing and was ferried to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he died a few hours after admission.
Meanwhile, Varaidzo Nyamadzawo of Waterfalls appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje for attempted murder.
The court heard that on Sunday, at around 8pm, Nyamadzawo’s ex-husband, Lazarus Tsandura, called and informed her that he would be visiting to see his daughter and leave money for her upkeep.
Tsandura arrived just before midnight. He found Nyamadzawo with her new boyfriend and she started shouting at him, accusing him of being an irresponsible father, who had failed to raise his daughter.
She allegedly pushed Tsandura and he fell to the ground.
She then allegedly scalded him with boiling water on his thighs and lower abdomen.
Tsandura sustained serious injuries and is currently admitted in hospital.
