MOTORISTS have been encouraged to exercise patience on the road and to stop driving against the flow of traffic.
In a statement, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said motorists should maintain the required braking distance when driving and follow all road rules and regulations to avoid unnecessary loss of lives on the roads.
This follows a fatal road accident, which occurred at the 180km peg, along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road on Tuesday morning.
“An IVECO Sprinter vehicle with nine passengers on board travelling towards Beitbridge veered off the road and hit a tree.
“Four passengers died on the spot while six others were injured.
“The injured people were referred to Neshuro District Hospital for treatment while the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the same institution for post-mortems,” he said.
In another incident, two people died and 12 others were injured in an accident involving five vehicles along the Harare-Mutare Road near National Oil Company in Mabvuku on Tuesday.
“A Toyota Wish with nine passengers on board driving against the flow of traffic collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla which had three passengers on board.
“The Toyota Wish swerved and collided with an Isuzu FXZ Auto truck.
“Subsequently, the trailer of the truck unhooked and hit two vehicles, a Mazda 323 and Mercedes Benz, which were travelling in the opposite direction.
“One passenger in the Toyota Wish died on the spot while the other passenger died upon admission to Pacific Hospital, Mabvuku,” he added.
