A Kuwadzana man has been associated with a 2019 murder after his gun was allegedly used in a spate of robberies.

The suspect Jealous Samoyo has denied the allegations stating that the firearm was with one Job Vambe, who signed for the firearm and its certificate at a gun shop but did not hand over the firearm to him for a year.

Vambe had already appeared in court charged with robbery and murder.

The court heard that on July 11, 2019, Vambe and his accomplices connived to rob Wellington Marongedze.

They went to his place of residence armed with iron bars, a golf stick, and a firearm.

They then forced entry into the house through the kitchen door.

They proceeded to Marongedze’s bedroom where he was asleep in the company of his wife Mavis Ndewere.

The robbers assaulted the now deceased with iron bars and a golf stick all over the body demanding cash and valuables.

One of them fired a shot towards the roof threatening to kill the victim.

They stole cash ZWL$70 and a cell phone from Marongedze’s pocket.

They continued assaulting him demanding cash and he directed them to his car which was parked outside where they took US$1 000 from the dashboard.

They left him for dead and fled from the scene.

Marongedze was taken to Parirenyatwa and was admitted in ICU where he passed away due to the injuries.

A spent cartridge was picked at the scene and was taken to CID Forensic Ballistics for examination.

On June 7 this year, a Brescia pistol serial number 116914 was recovered after having been abandoned at a scene of crime in Chitungwiza.

It was sent to CID Forensic Ballistics for examination and the results of the examinations proved that the firearm is the one that was fired on 19 July 2019 at Marongedze’s house and it matched the cartridge that was recovered at the scene.

Further investigations showed that Samoyo is the owner of the firearm and it was registered in his name when the murder occurred.
