Man co-habits, beds stepdaughter (15)

A NYAMAJURA man is in the eye of a storm after it emerged recently that he was allegedly co-habiting and having a sexual relationship with his step-daughter.

The man (30) and his 15-year-old step-daughter (name withheld) appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe, on Monday facing charges of being intimate within a prohibited degree of relationship as defined in Section 75 of Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

The pair vehemently denied the charge. Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted. The court heard that the man and the minor left their homestead sometime in mid-September this year and went to Village 7, Nyamajura in Odzi, in search of employment.

“During this period up to November 3, the duo allegedly stayed together as husband and wife without the knowledge of the minor’s mother. When they went back to their homestead, the mother asked her daughter on her relationship with her husband as she was suspecting foul play,” said Mr Karombe.

It was further alleged that the minor admitted to sleeping with her step-father. In his defence, the man denied that the minor was his step-daughter, insisting that they were not related whatsoever.

However, the minor’s mother shouted in anger from the gallery accusing her husband of lying.

They will be back in court on a later date after the State pleaded for time to acquire the probation officer’s report.
