A MAN from Shurungwi in the Midlands Province under chief Nhema committed suicide in the bedroom of his former lover after being dumped.
The incident which happened on Wednesday was confirmed by Midlands Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
“We would like to urge members of the public to engage third parties such as pastors, police from Victim Friendly Unit (VFU) and elders in the community to solve their disputes amicably,” he said.
A source close to the deceased’s family said Bright Sibanda (52) was dumped by his 54-year-old lover for being abusive as he allegedly bashed her.
Police said: “On Tuesday this week Sibanda went to his former lover. When he arrived there he approached her and asked for forgiveness and for her to fall in love with him again. But she refused and told him that she no longer loved him.”
Sibanda allegedly told her that he would not leave her homestead until she falls in love with him again. The woman then dashed to her uncle’s homestead and asked him to intervene.
“Her uncle came to her home at around 8: 45pm. He found him (Sibanda) sitting in the bedroom and advised him to leave for his home and return the following day so that they engage in a meeting. But Sibanda was not moved and told him that he won’t leave unless she falls in love with him again,” said a source close to investigations.
The woman’s uncle left him there and the woman at the centre of controversy also went to sleep at her neighbour’s home. Upon returning on the following day at around 7 am, she found Sibanda’s body hanging from a roof truss in her bedroom. She informed community members before reporting the incident to the police.
