Man commits suicide over ‘wife’s conduct’

Jokonia Matawani of Dulibadzimu suburb took his life at around 9am on Sunday morning while his wife was away.

Police officer commanding crime in Beitbridge district Superintendent Conrad Manhai confirmed the incident yesterday adding that they suspected no foul play. He said Matawani’s body had been conveyed to Beitbridge district hospital for a postmortem.

“Preliminary investigations reveal the deceased hanged himself from the roof of his house using an electric cord.
“He also left a note on the floor addressed to his wife and other relatives telling them that he took his life as a way of according her the freedom she wanted.

“He indicated he was tired of her misconduct. The wife is out of town and the deceased was only discovered by his landlord who then informed the police.
“Matawani had left the door to his room slightly open. As police we urge people to respect the sanctity of life and seek counselling rather than taking their own life when faced with challenges,” he said.
