Man commits suicide to avert court appearance

allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself.
David Kakono of Kakono Village under Chief Mukanganwi had allegedly told his relatives that he had a solution to skip his scheduled court appearance for assault.

He is said to have sneaked out of his bedroom hut in the dead of the night and hanged himself about 100 metres away from his homestead.
He had been summoned to appear before the Bikita Magistrates court for assaulting his wife.

Masvingo police spokesman Inspe-ctor Tineyi Matake confirmed the incident.
He said Kakono’s body had been taken to Silveira Mission Hospital for post-mortem.

“We are still investigating the case but the deceased’s body is awaiting a post-mortem at Silveira Mission Hospital.
“The deceased committed suicide after he had been summoned to appear in court the following day for assault,” Inspector Matake said.

Kakono was last week on Monday informed by police that he was expected to appear at the Gutu magistrates’ court the following day.

He however, told his nephew Jethro Mukuriro and daugher-in-law Bennedeta Munyeveri who stayed with him that he had a solution to his problems.
His body was found dangling from a tree at around 6am the following day.
