Man cons hospitalised friend of US$10 500

up stealing up to US$10 500, has appeared in court.
Carar Gilboy of Number 36 Cambell Road in Pomona will rue the day she trusted her friend to withdraw money from her bank to pay medical bills.
Cleopas Majori (45) was yesterday brought to the magistrates’ courts to answer to charges of theft of trust property.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before magistrate Mr Tavengwa Chibanda who remanded him out of custody to October 27 on US$50 bail.
As part of his bail conditions Majori was ordered to report once at the nearest police station and not to interfere with State witnesses.
Gilboy is still admitted in hospital because her condition has deteriorated.

Prosecutor Francisca Mukumbiri alleges that sometime in April Gilboy who was admitted at the Avenues Clinic authorised Majori to withdraw money from her NMB Bank account.
It is alleged that in June Gilboy asked Majori to sell her Mazda 323 for US$1 500 to raise money cover medical bills but Majori converted the money to his own use.
On June 14 Majori allegedly went to NMB Bank and withdrew US$2 000 which he was supposed to use buy food and medication.

However, Majori converted the money to his personal use, says the State.
Using the same modus operandi Majori withdrew US$6 000 from Gilboy’s NMB account, which he did not hand over taking advantage of his friend’s condition.

On August 20, Majori went again to NMB and withdrew US$1 000 and instead of paying electricity, water and telephone bills, he allegedly pocketed the money.
The offence came to light when Gilboys discovered that her medical, telephone and water bills were not paid.
The total amount stolen was US$10 500.
