An Epworth man reportedly destroyed his house and toilet at the height of a domestic dispute with his wife, a Harare Civil Court magistrate heard yesterday.

Dadirai Nyangwete claimed her husband Josiah Gume always unleashed violence on her.

Nyangwete was seeking a protection order against Gume whom she accused of being in the habit of verbally and physically abusing her.

“He destroyed our new house and toilet that we were building after a petty misunderstanding and now we are grounded,” she said.

Nyangwete told magistrate Mrs Babra Mateko that Gume was also in the habit of burning her clothes and tearing them whenever there was a misunderstanding.

“He burns and tears my clothes each time he becomes violent and at times he starts vandalising our matrimonial property,” said Nyangwete.

She claimed they started living together as husband and wife in 1998 and had four children.

“I want this honourable court to grant my application because I have endured a lot of suffering at the hands of this man.

Gume was in no show at the court.

Mrs Mateko granted the order in default which barred Gume from verbally or physically abusing Nyangwete and to stop threatening her with violence.
