Man dies in landslide

Tragedy struck in Mvurwi when a man who was illegally digging for chrome in a slime dam was buried alive in a landslide.

Remember Muranganwa (29) lost his life in the incident.

Mashonaland Central Provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha said the incident occurred on November 13 around 1 pm at Omeath Farm in Mvurwi.

Sergeant Major Chikasha said Muranganwa was digging approximately three meters in the slime dam pit when the landslide occurred.

His brother, Desmond Chimunyemba (40), escaped unharmed.

The other brother, Million Chimunyemba, was buried while standing upright.

When the landslide started, Muranganwa attempted to flee but got struck by a large lump of soil, causing him to fall. He then got buried under the ore and died.

A report was filed at Mvurwi Police Station, and the body of the deceased was taken to the Mvurwi Hospital mortuary.
