A caretaker died after a fire broke out in a wooden cabin he was sleeping in at Patel Shopping Centre in Waterfalls, Harare, in the early hours of Thursday.
Police say the man, Jonathan Gwati (58), is believed to have been trapped in the cabin when a 5kg gas tank attached to a gas stove exploded.
The incident occurred at around 1:00am.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the matter saying investigations are underway.
“The premises are manned by a security guard who resides in a wooden cabin within the shopping centre,” Insp Chakanza said. “Police are investigating a sudden death by fire case in Waterfalls.”
