Man disappears after night burial

Danisa Masuku
PETROS Moyo (65) wished lyrics to Winky Das song Disappear would come true in his life and now heas nowhere to be found. A

Moyo from Siyaphambili Village in Silobela under Chief Malisa got in trouble with the community three months ago when he along with his son, daughter-in-law and five unknownA people, buried his grandson during the night without aA burial order or notifying the village leadership.

The matter was reported to the police but Moyo has since fled from the village without a trace.

a?We are shocked as to what is happening because Moyo has since disappeared from the area. We tried looking for him to no avail. We reported the matter to the police and they have since launched a manhunt,a? saidA Chief Malisa.

The chief blamed the police for taking their time in looking for him.

a?If the police had done their investigations on time they could have concluded the matter. Now the body has decomposed and it would be difficult to conduct the exhumation,a? added the Chief.

The Member of the House of Assembly for Silobela Mthokozisi Manoki Mpofu said he suspected the couple smuggled the deceased body out of the hospital and conducted a ritual murder.

a?The way they rushed to bury the person within two hours raises a lot of suspicions that makes me suspect the child was smuggled out of the hospital during the night and the body was tampered with that is why they had to bury it at night without any village member witnessing the burial,a? he said.

Efforts to get a comment from the Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko were fruitless as his mobile phone rang continuously unanswered.
