A HOPLEY man claimed he was not the father of his ex-wife’s 12-year-old child in a bid to evade paying maintenance.
Yvonne Mawayeni appeared in court claiming US$105 from Cloud Zundani, for the upkeep of their two children, aged 14 and 12 years.
Yvonne said Zundani was not contributing anything towards their upkeep.
“I want US$105 because the children are going to school.
“As a vendor, I was providing for them but now things are tough for me to continue maintaining them alone,” said Yvonne.
She told the court that Zundani was in a position to pay maintenance because he owns a cellphone shop, earning US$300 per month.
However, Zundani denied being the father of one of the children.
“I can pay US$30 for my child because the young child is hers not mine.
“I am a cell phone and battery vendor at Boka and I earn US$100 per month,” said Zundani.
He also said he was married.
Magistrate Nyasha Marufu ordered him to pay US$70 while waiting for the paternity test of their young child.
