A BULAWAYO man was yesterday dragged from his hospital bed to attend maintenance court. Thabani Moyo showed up at the maintenance court saying he was gravely ill. He said he was discharged temporarily so that he could attend court. Moyo received summons to the maintenance court before he was hospitalised following his girlfriend Sithulisiwe Ndlovu’s application.
Ndlovu asked magistrate Sithembiso Ncube to grant her $100 in child support for their three-year-old daughter.
But Moyo pleaded with the court to be lenient saying he was already supporting his wife and three children.
“I’m of ill health. I was temporarily discharged and after court I’m going back to hospital. My salary is $300. I’m married and have three children to support. I can only offer $40 for my daughter,” he said.
Ndlovu told the court Moyo only had two children and he was not married.
“I don’t accept his $40 offer because he only has two children and I doubt he is married. He only told me he wasn’t feeling well but didn’t mention he was hospitalised,” she said.
Ndlovu told the court that now that she had seen him, it was evident he was not lying.
She accepted the offer after the magistrate said the matter should be postponed.
Magistrate Ncube ordered Moyo to pay $40 in child support.
