A man from Rubi resettlement area along the Gweru-Bulawayo Highway got himself into trouble with the law after he staged a rare protest over a boundary dispute with his neighbour.
He had visited his neighbour to discuss the long-standing row and proceeded to urinate on the walls of the neighbour’s bedroom hut.
Melusi Mhlanga, who felt offended by his 32-year-old neighbour, Cuthbert Mangena’s conduct proceeded to report him for public urination.
Mangena was on Tuesday taken to Gweru magistrate courts to answer to
the charges of public urinating.
The area prosecutor, Brian Muzemba, however, declined to set the trial date for the matter arguing that the police should conduct fresh investigations in the matter.
In an interview outside the Gweru magistrate courts, Mhlanga, the complainant said there was a long-standing dispute between him and Mangena over a land boundary.
He said he felt highly offended when Mangena recently visited his homestead and allegedly urinated on the walls of his bedroom hut.
Said Mhlanga:
“Mangena is saying my homestead is situated within his area. I have argued with him for some time and even our village chairperson dismissed his claims. He however visited my homestead recently and went on to urinate on the walls of my bedroom hut.”
Mhlanga said the incident occurred in full view of his wife and children.
“My wife and children can be witnesses in this case because they also
saw Mangena urinating on my bedroom hut wall. I felt that was tantamount to public urinating and went on to report the matter to the police,” he said
A court official who spoke to Chronicle said the police who investigated the matter were supposed to charge Mangena with indecent exposure.
“The fact that the urinating incident occurred in full view of the complainant, his wife and children makes this case an indecent exposure charge against Mangena. I think this is why the matter has been referred back to the police for further investigations,” he said.
