Man drowns during picnic

A MAN from Gokwe who was having a quality time with his girlfriend had his life abruptly ended when he drowned in a dam while they were swimming.

The two lovers, both from Bande village under Chief Nembudziya had their mini picnic cut short after the man Luckson Mafirirano drowned in Maselukwe Dam leaving his girlfriend, Miss Nomusa Dewa stunned. The incident that has become the talk of the village happened last Wednesday.

Mr Arnold Mashoko who is the uncle to the deceased said Mafirirano and his girlfriend were on their way from Mafirirano’s aunt who lives in the same village.

“He had gone to introduce his girlfriend to his aunt. On their way back they decided to take a swim since it was very hot.

Mafirirano got into the dam first while his girlfriend followed behind,” said Mr Mashoko.

He said Miss Dewa heard her boyfriend screaming and within seconds he had drowned. She tried to seek help but there was no one near to help her. Mr Shoko said Mafirirano’s body was only retrieved after two days by a villager only identified as Ruwungano. Police could not immediately confirm the incident.
