AN application for custody made by a Mutare man to have his two children back whom he threw into the streets seven years ago has been dismissed.
Taurai Chirungu appeared before Mrs Yeukai Chigodora praying that the courts grant him custody of the children he abandoned.
The children are currently staying with their grandparents since their mother Chipo Mucherera got married to another man.
Mucherera told the court that she is opposed to her ex-husband’s plea because he threw her out like a dog.
She also told the court that Chirungu is married to two other wives and was not in a position to take care of them.
“Your Worship, this man is not a responsible father because he doesn’t even know the amount of money being paid for his children’s school fees. He doesn’t care what they eat or where they sleep,” Mucherera told the court.
Chirungu told the court that he wanted to stay with his children since their mother was now married to another man.
“Your Worship, legally if parents separate and none of them is mentally challenged, the children are supposed to stay with one of them not grandparents. It is unfair that they are denying me the right to make up for my mistakes. If they can’t allow me to stay with my children permanently make them give me two weeks with them during holidays. I know I have made a lot of mistakes but people change,” said Chirungu.
The application for custody was dismissed and Chirungu was given 10 days to stay with the children during holidays.
