A 27-YEAR-OLD man from Sizinda suburb in Bulawayo has been arraigned before the courts after attempting to damage a voltage box at Carr Substation belonging to the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution company (ZETDC).
Dylan Ndlovu appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza facing a charge of damaging, destroying or interfering with electricity. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to Friday.
Allegations against the perpetrator are that on 15 July 2024 at around 7am, Ndlovu went to the Carr Substation and gained entry.
While he was inside, he unscrewed the cover of the low voltage box using a screwdriver and he put the cover inside.
The substation suddenly ignited resulting in the culprit being electrocuted. Ndlovu was ferried to the hospital and was later arrested by the police after his mother failed to convince the nurses to discharge him.
