A 39-year-old man has been arrested on allegations of making a false police report that he was robbed of US$287 000 and a Toyota Allion vehicle by four armed robbers in Mutoko.

On December 11, 2024 at around 10am, Khumbulani Sibanda went to ZRP Mutoko and reported that at around 8am, he had been robbed in Harare’s central business district.

He said the robbers dumped him in Mutoko and drove off in his vehicle.

Sibanda told the police that on December 4, he had assigned a security company to transport his US$2,3 million from Matabeleland South to Harare for safekeeping.

He had allegedly taken part of the money from the security company intending to make payments for a business and residential property.

After receiving the report, detectives from CID Mutoko visited the place where Sibanda had allegedly been dumped but failed to find any proof.
