A 26-year-old Harare man yesterday appeared in court on allegations of fatally assaulting another man over a prostitute. The accused reportedly forced his victim, Luckmore Chikwanda, to drink urine before he died.
Taurai Menyani appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Vongai Muchuchuti charged with assault.
Menyani, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, was remanded out of custody to January 15 on US$20 bail.
The prosecutor, Peter Kachirika, alleged that on January 1 at Barca Night Club in the city, Menyani had a misunderstanding with Chikwanda over a prostitute.
The court heard that when the argument heated up, Menyani punched and kicked Chikwanda.
It is alleged that Menyani dragged Chikwanda to the toilet where he continued assaulting him and forced him to drink urine from the toilet basin.
The court was told that Chikwanda was left lying helpless in the toilet as he was unconscious. A report was made to the police, leading to Menyani’s arrest.
