A MUTARE man is on the police wanted list after he reportedly fatally assaulted his visually-impaired girlfriend out of suspicion that she was dating another man.
Chengetai Gondo of Greenside allegedly assaulted Charnel Esther Hillman (40) resulting in her death out of suspicion that she was cheating on him.
Gondo is said to have attacked his lover after having alcohol together with his lover. Police confirmed the incident, which occurred on February 13, 2019.
“They were drinking beer at Marx Shopping Centre in Palmerstone, Mutare when the two had misunderstandings which were caused by Tapiwa Mutisi (30) a male friend of Chengetai who mocked Charnel that her boyfriend was cheating on her because of her blindness,” said police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa.
Insp Kakohwa said Gondo started by twisting his lover’s hand before attacking her with fists. Charnel is said to have fallen before her lover descended on her, kicking her all over the body.
Police said after the attack, Charnel was taken to Mutare Provincial Hospital where she was treated and discharged.
Upon being discharged from hospital, Charnel went on to lodge a complaint with the police. Charnel’s health started deteriorating forcing her boyfriend to take her back to hospital where she later died on admission.
