An unidentified man was fatally stabbed in a tragic incident at JCC Jumbo Mine by unknown assailants on Monday.

The victim, believed to be aged between 20 and 30, was discovered in a critical condition by a passing motorist but was pronounced dead upon arrival at Concession District Hospital due to excessive bleeding.

The motorist Mr Mutero Mapara was driving his Toyota Wish from Mazowe Mine to Goba Mine claim at approximately 11 pm when he encountered the victim.

Mr Mapara found him lying by the roadside, groaning in pain with visible injuries on his lower body.

With the assistance of his passengers, Mr Mapara carried the victim into his car and drove him to ZRP Jumbo Base where the case was reported under RRB 6347469.

Police advised that the injured man must be taken to Concession Hospital for medical assistance, but he succumbed to the fatal stab wounds upon arrival at the hospital.

The victim’s body had three stab wounds on the right backside and one on the right thigh.

His tracksuit bottom was heavily soaked in blood, indicating severe haemorrhaging, according to police observation notes at the crime scene.

No identification particulars were found on the man and police are appealing to the public for any information that might help solve the case. His body was taken to the mortuary at Concession District Hospital where it awaits a post-mortem.

Police are treating the incident as a murder case although no arrests have been made yet.

The incident adds to the growing list of violent crimes in the Jumbo Mine area in Mazowe, linked to the rise of illegal gold panning activities.

The police have recommended an intensified operation to address the lawlessness in the area. Anyone with information about the case can contact ZRP Mazowe or CID Bindura.
