A 36-year-old Seke man who mistook his friend’s 11-year-old grandchild’s playfulness as a seductive gesture and fondled her was sentenced to 250 hours of community service. Guide Banana of Mutangadura Village in Seke would frequent the minor’s homestead where she stays with her grandparents.

On April 5 and at around 7pm, he had been drinking with the girl’s grandfather within the vicinity.
After the beer drink, the two friends left for the girl’s homestead while drunk. When they arrived, the girl and her grandmother had just finished eating supper. While inside the hut, the girl’s grandfather set on the bench and immediately fell asleep.

Her grandmother left the room and visited her neighbour’s house to get some cooking oil. Banana took advantage of the situation and went where the minor was sleeping. The court heard that he started fondling the minor’s breasts and inserted his finger into her private parts.

The minor wrestled with Banana and bolted out of the room following her grandmother. She narrated her ordeal to her grandmother and the matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.
