A Kwekwe man committed suicide by hanging on Monday after allegedly raping his wife’s younger sister (5).

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko said yesterday:

“I can confirm that we received a sudden death report which happened at Amaveni, Kwekwe and investigations are still in progress. Samson Machaya (60) had a misunderstanding with his wife over a case of rape of which Machaya was the accused.

“He was refusing to go to the court saying that he did not want to go to jail for something he did not do. Therefore a misunderstanding arose and Machaya ran away from home and it was on October 1 at around 6PM and never returned.”

Insp Goko said a search party found Machaya’s body hanging from a tree in a nearby bush on Monday.

A source who spoke to The Chronicle on condition of anonymity said: “Machaya who is a former Sable Chemicals employee raped his wife’s young sister aged five years old while she was away and later hanged himself because he feared going to jail.”
