A 29-YEAR-OLD man from Njube suburb in Bulawayo hanged himself allegedly after failing to pay debts.

Norbert Mushambandadya’s aunt yesterday narrated the horror of finding him hanging from the sitting room roof of their house at midnight, as he took his last breath.

Lynette Manyanga (pictured right) said her nephew was depressed because he was failing to pay creditors.

She said she heard Mushambandadya waking up at around 12AM and go out of the house where he picked up a rope from a dustbin.

She said that she eventually heard some strange noises in the sitting room, forcing her to wake up.

“When I switched on the light, l saw Norbert hanging from the roof. I rushed to save him. I tried to lift him up but it was just too late,” she said.

Manyanga said her nephew was so stressed before they retired to bed that he hardly ate his supper.

She said when Mushambandadya narrated his troubles to her, she never thought it would end in tragedy.

“During supper l noticed that Mushambandadya was stressed. He told me, ‘I owe someone money and the person has even reported the matter to the police. I received a call that police were looking for me. I’m trying by all means to make ends meet but l’m failing. Whenever my wife calls she shouts at me thinking that l’m misusing money when I’m just struggling to get it’,” Manyanga said.

She said that she just reassured her nephew not realising that he was depressed and could take his life.

Mushambandadya’s body will be taken to his rural home in Gutu today.

Last month, a Pelandaba man allegedly hanged himself in his bedroom after he had earlier on failed to take his life by drinking rat poison.

In another incident, an Emakhandeni Primary School teacher allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Ingutsheni Central Hospital.

Nurses had allegedly refused to release her from the institution so that she could go home and nurse her baby.
