A 39-year-old Bulawayo man has been sentenced to perform 175 hours of community service after he assaulted his girlfriend by head-butting her in the mouth when he suspected she was involved with another man.
Justice Dube, of Cowdray Park suburb, was convicted of assault by Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
The court sentenced Dube to eight months’ imprisonment, with three months suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence during that period.
The remaining five months were suspended on condition that he completes 175 hours of community service at Mkhithika Thebe Primary School.
Prosecutor Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that Dube was the complainant’s boyfriend.
He said that on November 9, 2025, at around 8pm, Dube went to the residence of Ms Lothando Nyathi (27).
Upon arriving at the property, he allegedly saw a vehicle leaving the premises and immediately suspected that his girlfriend was having an affair with another man.
The court heard that Dube then charged towards the complainant and head-butted her once on the mouth, causing her to lose one tooth and leaving two other teeth loose.
A report was subsequently made to the police, leading to Dube’s arrest, while the complainant was referred to hospital for medical treatment, said Mr Dzimbanhete.
