A Harare man has appeared in court facing serious charges of attempted murder and rape after allegedly stabbing a male colleague and assaulting him, and later attempting to sexually assault a woman at knifepoint.
Huggins Nyamakanga (43) appeared before Harare Regional Magistrate Mrs Jesse Kufa, charged with the two offences.
Due to the severity of the charges, classified as third schedule offences, Nyamakanga was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
In the first case, the complainant, Abraham Makombe (47), of Western Triangle, Highfield, Harare, was attacked on January 8, 2026, while walking home along a street in Glen Norah.
The court heard that Nyamakanga suddenly confronted Makombe, produced a kitchen knife, and stabbed him once on the forehead and once on the left foot.
Nyamakanga allegedly continued to assault Makombe by kicking him repeatedly until he lost consciousness.
The victim was rushed to Sally Mugabe Hospital by ambulance, where he regained consciousness and received medical treatment.
A medical affidavit is yet to be submitted to the court. In the second case, which occurred on January 9, 2026, at around 11 pm, the complainant, a 45-year-old woman from Southerton, was at her boyfriend’s house in Glen Norah A when Nyamakanga arrived uninvited.
The accused reportedly entered the unlocked house, put on the jacket of the complainant’s boyfriend, and demanded sex.
When the complainant refused, Nyamakanga allegedly brandished a knife and threatened to stab her.
Despite the threats, the complainant continued to resist. Nyamakanga then broke a beer bottle and further intimidated her, before damaging the light bulb in the room, plunging the room into darkness.
He attempted to force himself on her again, but was thwarted by the complainant, who managed to escape.
The matter is still under investigation.
