A 71-YEAR-OLD man from suburbs in Bulawayo has appeared in court facing charges of allegedly raping and impregnating his employer’s 17-year-old mentally challenged daughter.
The suspect pleaded not guilty to rape when he appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga. He was, however, remanded in custody to 9 July 2024 for continuation of trial.
Circumstances are that sometime in February 2024 the accused who was at the time employed as a gardener by the victim’s parents called the victim to his bedroom and she complied.
The accused then ordered the victim to lie down on his bed and when she refused, he forcefully pushed her on the bed and proceeded to rape her.
The court heard that the accused then continued to rape the victim on several occasions.
The court also heard that the girl’s mental challenges prevented her from disclosing the abuse to her parents at the time. The matter came to light when the victim’s mother discovered that she was pregnant and reported the matter to the police.
