Woman stabbed for dumping lover

A WOMAN from Sebanga Park in Shurugwi, Midlands Province was reportedly stabbed several times with a broken beer bottle after she was caught boozing with an artisanal miner she claimed she had fallen in love with.

The incident which left imbibers shocked happened last Saturday at Mambowa business centre in Shurugwi and it was reported to the police. Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.

“We urge members of the public to engage either pastors, elders in the community or police to solve disputes rather than taking law into their hands,” he said.

A source said the artisanal miner Cleto Nyakareta returned home in the evening and was shocked not to find his live-in lover not at home. Nyakareta looked for her in the neighbourhood but he could not find her. He later found her at Mambowa business centre boozing with another man who works as an artisanal miner and a fight broke out.

“Nyakareta confronted the pair. His lover was a bit intoxicated and told him that she no longer loved him and had fallen in love with the man she was boozing with,” said the source.

After that tempers flared and amid that Nyakareta reportedly reached for an empty beer bottle and struck and stabbed his lover several times.

“She fell to the ground and collapsed. A Good Samaritan rushed her to hospital where she is battling for her life,” said the source.

The incident was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Nyakareta.
