A man who allegedly stole six cattle and slaughtered them before selling the meat appeared for trial on Wednesday at the Bulawayo Provincial Magistrate Court, facing stock theft charges.
Ignatius Charamba (44) was represented by his lawyer, Mr Prince Butshe of Butshe and Associates.
Charamba, through his lawyer, pleaded not guilty to the charge and stated that he is in the business of selling game meat.
He told the court that on the day in question, he was found selling kudu meat.
The lawyer argued that the allegation that Charamba was caught with 240kg of meat, offals, and skins of slaughtered cattle was not recorded in Form 390, which is the Standard Operating Procedure document used by the police.
The arresting officer, Inspector Sakson Dube, stated that the class of cattle stolen and slaughtered were classified under bovinae.
However, Butshe challenged this assertion, explaining that the bovinae class includes cattle, kudu, and buffalo.
Charamba was remanded out of custody to tomorrow (Thursday) for continuation of trial.
