A 36-year-old suspect was hauled to court for murdering a Marondera man after robbing him of money and property worth US$9 000.
Laison Taziva was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.
He was advised to approach the High Court for bail and will be back in court on February 15, pending finalisation of investigations.
Taziva has been in custody since October last year.
Allegations are that on September 23 last year at around midnight, Taziva, who was in the company of Josphat Muchenje, Felix Dapi, Elias Muchipuwa, Bright Magodhi and Tatenda Mudzungairi, connived to rob the now deceased Lucas Chimoka.
It is further alleged that armed with a pistol, iron bars and a bolt cutter, they went to Chimoka’s house in Paradise, Marondera, where they forced open the door.
The court heard that they went to the main bedroom where they found Chimoka sleeping with his wife.
They demanded money from him threatening to kill him if he didn’t.
It is alleged that Taziva stabbed Chimoka on the chest just above the left nipple resulting in his death.
Taziva and his accomplices ransacked the house and also threatened to kill Chimoka’s wife if she didn’t give them money.
The woman handed them US$7 900.
They also took R2 000, two iPhones, and an Itel phone.
Out of the stolen property valued at US$9 200, only US$14 was recovered.
