A 23-YEAR-OLD Mutare man appeared in court on allegations of stealing cellphones worth more than $1 000 from a shop near the infamous Moto-moto.
The cellphones and a litany of related accessories were stolen from Taurai Tsanza’s shop. It is alleged that Tsanza closed his shop after work and retired home and Wilson Gift Dube broke into the shop and stole125 Nokia phones, 55 Samsung smart phones and several other accessories.
He appeared before Mrs Sekai Chiundura, while Mr Douglas Mutiure prosecuted.
A report was immediately made to the police leading to Dube’s arrest. Dube found selling some of the stolen items.
Dube, who admitted stealing the cellphones, said he gained entry into the shop through the ceiling.
“I entered the shop through an opening in the ceiling and I stole all the said gadgets,” he pleaded guilty.
Asked on why he had committed the offence, he said: “I can’t help it Your Worship, evil spirits drove me into committing the offence. I need exorcism.”
He was remanded in custody to July 8, awaiting sentencing.
