A Harare man is facing criminal nuisance charges for allegedly shooting at High Court judge, Justice Emiliah Muchawa.
Nation Musekiwa, who initially pleaded guilty, changed his plea to not guilty before magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure yesterday.
He is now being represented by Harare lawyer, Dumisani Mthombeni, and his trial is expected to start on March 8.
Musekiwa stays in the same street with Justice Muchawa in Westgate.
Allegations are that on January 31 at around 7.30pm, Justice Muchawa was driving home in the company of her husband, Pascal Muchawa, along Old Mazowe Road.
As they approached Tom Farm along Old Mazowe Road, they saw Musekiwa’s white Honda Civic driving in front of them.
As they were about to turn into Good Hope Road, they realised that Musekiwa’s vehicle was still ahead of them moving in the direction of their house.
Musekiwa then allegedly stopped his car close to the judge’s residence, and they also stopped.
Musekiwa then fired a shot into the air and the couple sped off to Justice Energy Bhunu’s house to seek refuge.
Justice Muchawa reported the shooting to the police and detectives found a 9mm cartridge close to her gate.
On February 1, Musekiwa handed himself over to the police after the shooting incident went viral on social media.
The police recovered the pellet gun from him and a ballistics test was conducted.
Anesu Chirenje appeared for the State.
