A HARARE woman was granted a protection order against her husband, who she accused of assaulting her in public.

The order was granted by magistrate Tamara Chibindi in default.

Winnet Chidivi accused her husband, Edward Machokoto, of being violent whenever he was drunk.

She told the Harare Civil Court that she was now afraid of sleeping at home because he assaulted and threatened to kill her every time he got home drunk.

She pleaded with the court for a divorce saying she felt Edward was no longer playing his role as husband.

“I am staying at my neighbour’s house since I am afraid he might kill me. l no longer see him as my husband due to his violent nature.

“He only comes home to change clothes, beats me up, and goes to his girlfriend.

“Our two minor kids sleep alone at home, and he breaks the windows and doors just to scare me away.

“Yesterday he came and started breaking the doors, threatening to kill me because the police had handed him the court papers,” she said.
