Man jailed 10 year for stealing cattle

A man from Chipinge had been sentenced to 10 years in prison for stealing cattle.

John Moyana (29) was brought before the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court facing stock theft charges.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, of which one year was set aside for 5 years. He will serve an effective nine years.

The court heard that on September 29, 2024, the complainant (47) released her cattle to the grazing lands and at around 4 pm,

she returned to check on them and discovered that her black ox was missing.

She spent six days looking for the ox but could not find it.

On October 12, 2024, at around 1 pm, the complainant found her ox in Moyana’s kraal.

When she confronted Moyana over the issue, he admitted to stealing the ox from the grazing lands with the intention of selling

it.

The complainant reported the matter to the police, leading to Moyana’s arrest.
