A CHINHOYI man was jailed 12 years for raping a minor in a bushy area.

Simbarashe Mhenyuka was found guilty when he appeared before Chinhoyi regional magistrate, Ignatius Mugova, charged with rape.

Mugova sentenced him to 15 years in jail before three years were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The complainant is a girl aged 14 years.

Prosecuting, Mollen Chitsiga, told the court that sometime in June, Mhenyuka proposed love to the juvenile but was turned down.

In the same month, Mhenyuka met the girl along a pathway and dragged her into the nearby bush where he raped her once.

Mhenyuka threatened to attack every member of the girl’s family, if she told anyone.

She narrated her ordeal to her mother, who reported the matter to the police.

The girl was referred to hospital for a medical examination.
