Man jailed 20-years for rape

A Mutare man will spend the next 17 years in prison after he was convicted of raping his four-year-old niece.

The incident occurred when the man aged 32, lured the child into his bedroom where he raped her and the matter came to light when a neighbour overheard the complainant relating the incident to another child while they were playing sometime in June this year.

The complainant was then taken to a hospital for a medical examination. According to the State, the man was sentenced to 20 years in prison of which three years were suspended for five years.

He will serve an effective 17 years. Meanwhile, another 23-year-old Mutare man has been arrested on allegations of raping his one-year-and 10-month-old daughter.

The man allegedly committed the offence occurred on December 17, 2024 while the child’s mother was away fetching water from a nearby borehole.

According to the State the man went to where the child was sleeping and removed her diaper before raping her.

The matter came to light when the mother returned from the borehole and met the suspect at the door while he was pulling up his trousers.

She went to check where the victim was sleeping and discovered that she was bleeding and saw some semen.

A report was made to the police.
