Chipinge Regional Magistrates Court has sentenced a 42-YEAR-OLD man to 20 years for raping a 15-year-old girl.

According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the crime was committed last year in Chipinge when the man lured the teenager to his home under the pretext of collecting relish at night.

She agreed to go, as the offender was an acquaintance of the family who had previously assisted them when their mother was at work.

Once inside, the offender led the victim to his bedroom and threatened her with a knife, warning that he would stab her if she refused to comply with his demands. He then sexually assaulted her.

The victim was compelled to spend the night at the offender’s home, where the assaults continued on several occasions under similar circumstances.

The situation came to light when the victim’s siblings alerted their mother, who then encouraged the victim to share her ordeal, leading to the man’s arrest.
